Bigelow Research Laboratory Utilizes SF Marina Systems Industrial Dock

February 26, 2015

The Bigelow Laboratory opened a new research facility in East Boothbay Maine in 2014. They needed a docking solution that would accommodate many unique needs and site challenges. SF Marina Systems USA supplied the 20×50 industrial concrete floating dock. With a 15 ft Tide, and a requirement for access by small vehicles, the dock accommodated a 8×80′ ramp capable of carrying a small utility vehicle. In addition to power and water for vessels, which was routed internally via ducts and utility boxes, the dock was fitted with a pump house to supply the flowing water laboratories in the building. A 1.5 Ton crane was mounted directly to the concrete deck of the dock to lift and transfer equipment between the dock and vessels. The system is designed to handle visiting ocean going research vessels in the range of 75′, and can be expanded for larger vessels.

Maine magazine had a nice article about the lab – https://themainemag.com/play/wellness/2581-bigelow-laboratory.html
