Irish Navy visits Portland, Maine’s Fore Points Marina

October 12, 2022

On September 16th, Portland, Maine, USA welcomed the Irish naval ship LÉ James Joyce at the Fore Points Marina during the navy’s North Atlantic tour.

The LÉ James Joyce is an offshore patrol vessel of the Irish Navy commissioned in 2015. The ship has a gross tonnage of 2256, is 90 meters in length, with a 14-meter beam.

In 2018, SF Marina Systems USA delivered over 1500 ft of 20-ft wide floating breakwaters to the Fore Points Marina, which can accommodate superyachts and ships up to 600 feet. The marina is located near Portland’s historic Munjoy Hill and India Street neighborhoods, where many Irish immigrants to the city found their first homes and jobs.
